Last spring, I had the idea for a new novel about a couple of girls who became YouTube sensations, then one goes mysteriously missing. I mentioned it to my critique partner, author Heather Anastasiu, and I think her exact words were, "I want in!"
We'd sort of talked about maybe someday trying to co-write a book together. So, when this came up, I thought why not this? Why not now? The following week we sat down with a stack of 3x5 cards and began plotting an intricate, twisty, turn-y plot, complete with music videos, magenta hair dye, malice, and motorcycles.
We outlined the novel in Google Docs, and each took responsibility for writing two of the four POV characters. I wrote in the morning while Heather slept. She wrote at night while I slept. Every day, I woke up to discover what had happened to our characters overnight! So much fun!
Three weeks later, we had a first draft. By November, we were on submission. And now I am pleased to report that THE TWISTED LIFE will be sitting on bookstore shelves next year.
Here's what Publisher's Marketplace reported today:
Author of the Lies Beneath Trilogy Anne Greenwood Brown, and author of the Glitch Trilogy Heather Anastasiu's THE TWISTED LIFE, about the mysterious disappearance of and desperate search for a young and beautiful YouTube star after a falling out with her band mate and best friend, to Wendy McClure at Albert Whitman, for publication in Spring 2016, by Jacqueline Flynn at Joelle Delbourgo Associates (World).
